    Signed By Stories aims to raise mental health awareness, advocacy, education and support for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind, late-deafened and deaf-disabled through storytelling.

    Signed By Stories is working to create a community where deaf and hard-of-hearing people can:

    • Join together and share their mental health stories
    • Receive validation for their experiences
    • Learn how to better support their own and the larger community’s mental health needs
    • Have a platform where both deaf and hearing people have the knowledge, tools and feel empowered to take action to improve the current state of mental health care for deaf people
  • SIU School of Dental Medicine Special Needs Patient Care Clinic in Alton

    The Southern Illinois University (SIU Edwardsville) School of Dental Medicine offers comprehensive dentistry for patients with physical, intellectual and emotional disabilities, and other special healthcare needs. Children and adults in central and southern Illinois with special needs can receive dental care at their Special Needs Patient Care Clinic in Alton.

    Dental services are available at a reduced cost. The clinic accepts Medicaid and most dental insurance plans.

  • Specialized Equine Services and Therapeutic Riding in Southern Illinois

    Specialized Equine Services and Therapeutic Riding (SES) at Giant City Stables provides opportunities for people with physical and/or emotional disabilities to improve their well-being through riding and working with horses. Children age 4 and up and adults are welcome.

    SES at Giant City Stables is a non-profit organization. Scholarships and grants are available for eligible families. For more information, please call (618) 529-4110 or email rachelle@sestherapy.com.

  • St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in Chicago

    St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center in Chicago provides dental care for children and adults with special needs. The Dental Center provides:

    • Two operating rooms specifically for oral rehabilitation
    • Dentists and surgeons trained to provide complex care, including careful and various levels of sedation
    • Services from routine exams and cleanings to advanced orthodontics, crowns, urgent root canals and more
    • Help with insurance and payment options

  • St. Louis Dental Center

    The St. Louis Dental Center offers comprehensive special care dentistry for patients with intellectual, physical and emotional disabilities and other special healthcare needs. It is a partnership of A.T. Still University (ATSU) and Affinia Healthcare.

    The center’s special care suites include a wheelchair lift. The center accepts Medicaid and most dental insurance plans. Discounts are available to uninsured patients.

  • State of Illinois Comprehensive Health Insurance Plan

    CHIP, a state program, to provide health insurance to residents who due to existence/history of a medical condition, are unable to acquire insurance.

  • Swann Center in Champaign

    Swann Special Care Center is a non-profit organization located in Champaign that offers residential and educational programs for people with severe and profound intellectual disabilities.  Its programs serve residents from throughout Illinois and include residential nursing care, adult day training and an accredited year-round school. Swann Special Care Center also offers:

    • Restorative and long-term habilitation
    • Palliative and end-of-life care
    • Evaluation on an individual and ongoing basis
    • Physical, occupational and speech therapies
  • Synapse House

    Synapse House provides services to adults with an acquired brain injury, such as an accident, stroke, gunshot wound or overdose, and traditional developmental disability services may not be appropriate. Located in Downers Grove, Synapse House programs and services include:

    • The Clubhouse/employment programs
    • KNZ NeuroFitness Gym
    • Community integration  therapeutic activities
    • Community support services
    • Family support
  • TAG Oral Care Center for Excellence in Chicago

    TAG Oral Care Center (TAG OCC) provides free dental care to eligible, underserved adult patient populations. TAG OCC is located in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood near public transportation and Interstate 90/94.

    To qualify for free dental care, patients must be:

    • Illinois residents
    • Eligible for Medicaid or uninsured with a household income not greater than 200 percent of the federal poverty level
