“2026 Nature’s Navigators STEM Camp” for Youth with Autism at Upham Woods in the Wisconsin Dells

Celebrate neurodiversity and foster hands-on, nature-based learning at this free STEM camp for youth with autism in grades 6-12

Join the Nelson Institute Center for Climatic Research, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center for the “2026 Nature’s Navigators STEM Camp.”  Campers will arrive by 12:45 p.m. Camp will run on Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center in the Wisconsin Dells:

  • Sept. 12 – “MacroFun with MicroClimates”
  • Sept. 19 – ” In Search of Treasure”
  • Oct. 24 – “Decoding the Deep”

Nature’s Navigators Camp aims to broaden science opportunities for neurodivergent youth by supporting exploration in a non-threatening, nontraditional and inclusive learning environment. Each session will focus on:

  • Enjoying nature-based, hands-on learning opportunities
  • Exploring and encouraging the pursuit of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degrees and careers
  • Celebrating and embracing neurodivergence and the associated unique thinking and learning of neurodivergent youth

The camp is open to neurodivergent youth entering grades 6–12 in the 2026-27 school year. Activities will include:

  • Lego robotics and snap circuits
  • Soda-mentos experiment
  • About me Jenga
  • Geocaching on Blackhawk Island
  • Science magic tricks and more

The camp is free, but registration is required. Campers must be accompanied by an adult caregiver/family member.
