Celebrate National Learning Disabilities Awareness Month in October with a free, four-part parent webinar series packed with practical tools to support learning

Join Family Matters Parent Training and Information Center and the Illinois SLD Support Project for its four-part learning disability webinar series from Oct. 6 to Oct. 27. Virtual sessions will take place every Tuesday in October from 6 to 7 p.m.

The series will kick off with “Introduction to Specific Learning Disabilities: A Guide for Parents” on Oct. 6.

Presenter Robin Thoma will help parents and caregivers build a deeper understanding of specific learning disabilities (SLD).

Robin will provide a clear definition of SLD and also explore:

  • Key characteristics
  • Effective ways to support learning
  • Practical accommodations
  • Strategies to support students with SLD

The webinar series is free. Parents and caregivers can attend one session or join the entire series.

The series will continue on Tuesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. with:

  • Oct. 13 – “Oral Language and Emergent Literacy”
  • Oct. 20 –  “Supporting Your Child in Math: Understanding Challenges and Building Strong Foundations”
  • Oct. 27 – “From Research to Routine: Study Strategies for Students that Caregivers can Support in the Home”
