Free Virtual and In-Person Family Sign Language Classes in Chicago

Free virtual and in-person sign language classes in English and Spanish will begin in April

The Chicago Hearing Society (CHS) will provide Family American Sign Language (ASL) classes in both English and Spanish from April through May.

The classes are free to family members of children from birth through high school who are deaf, deafblind or hard of hearing. Extended family members are also welcome. You do not have to be an Illinois resident to participate.

Class instructors are deaf and communicate using ASL and written English. The classes will not use any sound or audio.

One in-person Family Beyond Beginner’s class in English will meet at the CHS Office on 2017 N. Mendell, Suite 3NE, in Chicago. Class will meet on Mondays, April 6 through May 11, from 6:30 to 7:30  p.m.

• Register for the in-person Family Beyond Beginners class in English.

All other family classes are online only:

• The Spanish Family ASL Class will meet on Tuesdays, April 7 to May 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Register for the Family Class in Spanish (Clases de Lenguaje de Senas Americano (ASL) en Espanol).
• The English Beginner ASL class will meet on Wednesdays, April 15 to May 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Register for the Family Beginners class in English.
• The English Beyond Beginners class will meet on Thursdays, April 9 through May 21, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Register for the Family Beyond Beginners ASL class in English.

¡Clases de Lenguaje de Señas Americano (ASL) en Espanol!

Estas clases son gratuitas para los familiares de niños sordos y con problemas de audición desde el nacimiento hasta la escuela secundaria. Los miembros de la familia extendida son bienvenidos. Usted no necesita residir en Illinois para participar.

Por favor, enumere a todos los miembros de la familia que planean asistir para que podamos tener un recuento preciso de cuántas personas esperar para la clase.

Los instructores son sordos y se comunican usando ASL e inglés escrito. ¡No se utilizará audio!
