Leader Dogs for the Blind is hosting “Teen Summer Camp” for youth who are blind from June 21 to 27 in Rochester Hills, Mich.

Leader Dogs empowers teens who are legally blind to explore navigation options and gain lifelong skills for safe and independent living.

The camp is free for teens ages 16 or 17 who are legally blind, even if they don’t plan to train with a guide dog.

Activities will include:

  • Building friendships with peers facing similar challenges
  • Learning how to use an accessible GPS
  • Practicing orientation, mobility and night travel skills
  • Tandem biking, rock wall climbing, zip lining, beep kickball and more!

Campers will receive a free HumanWare GPS to help increase their travel independence. They can also learn about living and working with a guide dog.

The camp is free and includes public transportation to and from the camper’s home to Leader Dogs for the Blind’s Rochester Hills campus, accommodations and meals.

Download the Teen Summer Camp application on Leader Dogs’ website to apply.  The deadline to apply is April 3.
