COVID-19 Resources

  • COVID-19 Assistance for Southern Illinois Shawnee Health Service

    COVID-19 Assistance for Southern Illinois Shawnee Health Service received a $250,000 grant from the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund to serve the state’s most vulnerable residents. Shawnee Health Service is focused on deploying resources to Jackson, Williamson, and Union Counties. Assistance may be available to residents of other counties.

    There are no restrictions on age or insurance coverage status. Anyone may request assistance, regardless of whether or not he or she is a patient or client of Shawnee Health Service. Grant funds will be used to assist southern Illinoisans with:

    • Food and basic needs
    • Temporary housing, rent, utilities, or mortgage
    • Utility and financial assistance
    • Out-of-pocket medical costs

  • COVID-19 Communication Rights Toolkit

    A toolkit for patients with the coronavirus who need communication tools and supports due to speech-related disabilities It (1) explains your communication rights, (2) provides tips on advocating for them, and (3) has an accommodation request form you can bring to the hospital.

  • COVID-19 Emotional Support Line

    Memorial Behavioral Health has established an emotional support hotline, available at (217) 588-5509, to provide support to individuals who are experiencing anxiety or stress, even if they are not MBH patients. This hotline is operated by trained mental health professionals and is staffed seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    The Illinois Housing Development Authority continues to provide support and assistance programs for Illinois homeowners and renters. Its COVID-19 Housing Resources Information website provides the latest information.

  • COVID-19 Information in ASL

    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides a series of YouTube videos on COVID-19 with information in American Sign Language.

  • COVID-19 Long Haulers and the Americans With Disabilities Act

    The U.S. Department of Labor provides a wide variety of resources to help workers, employers, youth and policymakers respond to and recover from the Coronavirus pandemic. Their website includes information on COVID-19 long haulers and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

  • COVID-19 Parenting Tip Sheets and Activities

    Parenting for Lifelong Health has developed open-access online parenting resources to support families during COVID-19 and beyond. Their Parenting Tip Sheets are available in 100-plus languages and provide useful reminders, suggestions, strategies and activities to help caregivers support themselves, their children and their families.

  • COVID-19 Preparedness Tool for Families and Caregivers

    The Stanford Health Literacy Lab in collaboration with families and providers developed the COVID-19 Preparedness Tool for Families and Caregivers to help families of children with special healthcare needs with rpreparing for and responding to COVID-19 in a variety of settings.

    The user-friendly tool, also available in Spanish, provides tips for home, healthcare settings, schools and work. It also offers advice for coping with family stress.

    The Chicagoland Disabled People of Color Coalition and the Illinois Self-Advocacy Alliance, Inc., developed this centralized list of resources for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in marginalized communities.
