Webinar – “In the Heat of the Moment”
A free webinar for caregivers on addressing children’s meltdowns and challenging behavior without losing your cool
Join STAR NET Region II and STAR NET Region VI for “In the Heat of the Moment” on Jan. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Children’s behavior can escalate quickly. Your feelings about that escalation can erupt just as fast. Even if a child has a diagnosis or an Individualized Education Program (IEP), sometimes, in the heat of the moment, your response can escalate the child’s challenging behavior.
You can only help a child to de-escalate when you are in control of yourself, have a relationship with the child and believe in that child.
Presenter Barbara Kaiser is an author, teacher and professional with over 30 years experience in early childhood education. She will help participants understand the ins and outs of challenging behavior and strategies to address it without losing your cool.
Barbara will walk participants through:
- Recognizing the importance of self-regulation
- Identifying when children feel good about themselves and when they are starting to fall out of that competent state
- Understanding the stages of behavior escalation and responding to each stage
- Practicing helping children to de-escalate and re-join the group
The webinar is open to family members, teachers and other professionals who work with young children with disabilities and challenging behavior.
Register for “In the Heat of the Moment” and read more about the presenter on STAR NET Region II’s website.
