Webinar – “Fall Into the IEPs: Four-Part Family Lunch and Learn Series” Session 2

A free, four-part webinar series to help families better understand their child’s IEP and participate confidently in the special education process

Family Matters Parent Training and Information Center (FMPTIC) will host “Fall Into the IEPs: Four-Part Family Lunch and Learn Series.” Sessions will take place every other Thursday from Sept. 24 through Nov. 5 from 12 to 1 p.m.

“Session 2: Back-to-School IEP Check-Up: Is the IEP (Individualized Education Program) Working?” will be on Oct. 8.

Through four practical, family-friendly sessions, participants will gain an understanding of their child’s IEP and be able to participate confidently in the special education process. Each session will provide help for understanding, monitoring, preparing for, and addressing concerns about their child’s IEP.

Having an IEP in place is only the beginning—families also need to know whether the plan is actually working.

This session will help families identify what to watch for during the first weeks of school, including:

• Understanding how their child’s progress is being monitored
• Recognizing signs that additional discussion with the IEP team may be needed
• Exploring practical ways to communicate with the school
• How to ask questions about services and supports
• Using progress information to stay actively involved in their child’s education
