The Supporting Illinois Brothers and Sisters (S.I.B.S.) Network will host “Exploring Grief in Children With Intellectual Disabilities” on June 30 from 7 to 8 p.m.

Discover groundbreaking research and connect with others who are passionate about supporting children with intellectual disabilities (ID).

Join Arlen Gaines, PhD, MSW, LCSW-C, LICSW, APHSW-C, for a deep dive into how children with ID experience and cope with the loss of a significant person in their lives.

Participants will learn:

  • How grief and bereavement affect children with ID
  • How bereavement affects their experiences as siblings
  • Practical strategies for supporting grieving children in your community

Arlen is the director of social services with JSSA Hospice in Rockville, Md. She is passionate about understanding and supporting children with ID experiencing grief and bereavement. Arlen is also the co-author of the award-winning “I Have a Question” series, which addresses complicated topics for children of all abilities.
