Free training for Illinois residents interested in becoming an Educational Surrogate Parent for children with disabilities

Would you like to make a difference in the life of a child with a disability?

Join the Family Matters Parent Training and Information Center for “Educational Surrogate Parent Training” on Zoom. Educational Surrogate Parent (ESP) happens on the first Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

An ESP provides advocacy and support at educational meetings for students with disabilities who are in the care of the state of Illinois or who don’t have parent/guardian representation.

In addition to attending a training session, ESP requirements include:

  • Completing all required paperwork
  • Participating in a background check
  • Communicating in a timely manner with Illinois State Board of Education representatives and Family Matters staff as the program requires

There is a need for ESP volunteers in all Illinois counties.

Watch this short YouTube video to learn more about becoming an ESP.

Register for an Educational Surrogate Parent training session on Family Matter’s calendar of events. The virtually monthly training is on Zoom.
