Sickle Cell Transition Camp for High School Students in Chicago
Free two-day sickle cell transition camp to help prepare youth who will be moving from pediatric care to adult health care
The Sickle Cell Disease Association of Illinois (SCDAI) and the University of Illinois Hospital (UI Health) will host “Sickle Cell Transition Camp” on Aug. 4-5. The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
The two-day camp is for high school students. Teens in their freshman through senior year will gain a better understanding of “transition” while having fun together. Transition means that individuals stop receiving healthcare services from pediatric professionals and move to adult healthcare providers.
Activities will include:
- Meeting other teens with sickle cell disease
- Participating in a wide range of activities
- Exploring transition topics and the move from pediatric care to adult care
- Eating lunch together
The camp is free to attend.
All camp participants must be dropped off and picked up at SCDAI’s office daily.
SCDAI will host a virtual information meeting for campers and their families closer to the start of camp.
Register online for “Sickle Cell Transition Camp.” After you submit your form, SCDAI will contact you with more information about the camp.
If you have questions or concerns about camp, contact (773) 526-5016 or sicklecelldisease-illinois@scdai.org.
