The Perkins School for the Blind will host “Ways to Ensure Youth Participation in Health-Related Decision Making” on April 15 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Webinars will continue on Wednesdays through April 29.
Each session will feature expert presenters, several of whom are parents with real-world insights into the unique challenges faced by individuals with complex disabilities.
Explore common challenges young people with medical needs may face when expressing preferences, asking questions, or participating in care decisions.
Elizabeth Bostic is the Director of the Division for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the founder of The Parent Coach. She will discuss:
- Practical strategies families can use alongside schools and IEP teams to support participation in healthcare planning and goal-setting
- Ideas for including young adults in decisions about their health in ways that feel meaningful and achievable
Each session will provide a deeper understanding of how to promote continuity of care, independence and quality of life for young adults with complex medical and developmental needs.
The webinar is free. Parents, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals and advocates are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions.
The series will continue on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on:
