Free month-long webinar series to support caregivers of individuals with Down syndrome during National Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October

October is National Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

Join the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) for this month-long webinar series to support caregivers of individuals with Down syndrome. The series will cover a variety of important topics from Oct. 2 through Oct. 30.

Learn about “Understanding and Supporting Trauma in Adults with Down Syndrome” on Oct. 21 from 12 to 1 p.m.

Adults with Down syndrome who have experienced trauma may exhibit unique behaviors and symptoms that can be challenging to recognize and understand. As a caregiver, it’s not always easy to know how to best support your loved one coping with the effects of traumatic stress.

Ruth Brown, PhD, director of HOPE (Healthy Outcomes and Psychosocial Equity) Lab at Virginia Commonwealth University, will help caregivers gain a deeper understanding of how trauma can present differently in adults with Down syndrome.

Ruth will discuss:

  • Practical strategies and evidence-informed approaches for providing meaningful support
  • Helpful resources for families navigating trauma-related challenges

The webinars are free.
