Learn how self-determination can lead to independence, problem solving and self-advocacy at this free workshop for youth ages 14 to 18 with hearing loss

Kids with hearing loss sometimes miss incidental information that is vital to their growth and development.

Join Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Office for Accessible Campus Community & Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) Deaf Services for “Session 2 – Self-Determination Workshop for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Youth” on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

You do not have to attend the first session to attend session 2

Youth will enjoy activities, presentations and group interaction aimed at boosting self-esteem and self-determination.

Activities will focus on understanding self-determination and how it can empower:

  • Independence
  • Problem solving
  • Self-advocacy

The workshop is for youth ages 14 to 18. All activities will be accessible, and all communication modes are welcome. Class is taught in sign language. Interpreters will be available.

The workshop fee is $25.

Register for the Self-Determination Workshop – Session 2. This course will be on the SIUE campus. Parking is free. Workshop attendees will receive the final location the week before the course date.

Session 1 of the “Self-Determination Workshop for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Youth” is on Sept. 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. You do not have to attend the first session to attend session 2.
