A free webinar series for parents and health and human service providers on helping our kids after the pandemic

The We Are Parents webinar series,  hosted by the McLean County Health Department and Carle,  continues with “Reading for Mental Health” on Feb. 17 from 12 to 12:50 p.m.

Reading to and with children from birth can improve a child’s language, speech and learning abilities. Choosing books that have a social and/or emotional message or theme can also help kids with their mental health and wellness.

Presenter Cris Hawk (Stanek) will talk about how books can help improve a child’s mental health. Her discussion will include:

  • The benefits of social and emotional learning
  • How to choose stories with social/emotional themes
  • A list of books that are recommended reading

Many of the books on her list may be available at your local libraries.

Cris is a licensed clinical social worker, long-time member of the McLean County AOK Network and currently serves as a children’s mental health consultant at The Baby Fold.

This is the fourth webinar in this series focusing on the pandemic’s impact and how we can help our children be stronger as we move into the post-pandemic world.
