Sibshops in Crystal Lake

A fun, in-person gathering for 8- to 14-year-old siblings of kids with special needs

Options & Advocacy for McHenry County is hosting Sibshops on Oct. 1 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Groups usually meet on the first Saturday of each month from October through May.

Siblings will meet at McHenry County Mental Health Board, 620 Dakota St., in Crystal Lake.

Sibshops are lively, engaging celebrations of the many contributions made by brothers and sisters of kids with special needs. Activities include games, making new friends and discussion activities. Sibshops are not therapy, although their effect may be therapeutic for some children.

Youth ages 8 to 14 who are the sibling of a person with a developmental, medical or mental health diagnosis are welcome. Sibshops also needs and welcomes Teen Sib Facilitators.
