Early CHOICES and STAR NET Regions I & III invite you to their in-person workshop “Getting Ready for Students with Down Syndrome” on May 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The workshop is at Heartland Community College, Astroth Community Education Center (Room 2101), 1500 W. Raab Road, in Normal.

Are you welcoming students with Down syndrome into your pre-kindergarten or kindergarten classroom this year or are you a parent preparing for the leap from Early Intervention to Pre-K or Pre-K to kindergarten?

Join presenter Dr. Paula Kluth, a consultant, author and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities, to learn about:

  • Characteristics and myths about Down syndrome
  • Helpful classroom and transition strategies
  • Inclusive education
  • Ideas for supporting communication, behavior and learning

Participants will also hear from individuals with Down syndrome and their families, including Bridget Brown, a self-advocate and dynamic inclusion advocate, and Nancy Brown, Bridget’s mom and a tireless educator and champion of schools for all.

This is an in-person workshop. Space is limited.
