A free webinar for parents and family members of children with special needs on building important relationships and practicing critical social skills despite the pandemic

Illinois StarNet Region II‘s family-focused webinar series kicks off with “The Social Implications of COVID on Young Children” on Jan. 25 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.

The COVID pandemic has been challenging. It’s left many young children with fewer opportunities to assimilate and practice their social, emotional and behavioral skills.

Author and social skills development leader Caroline Maguire will share how you can support your child to (re)build important relationships with peers and adults. As with any other skill, if not practiced and used, social skills become rusty. Participants will learn how to coach your child and teach them critical social skills including:

  • Listening
  • Managing emotions
  • Being flexible
  • Reading social cues

Maguire will also cover how to observe your child(ren) to determine lagging skills and social challenges and design tailored, social skills building strategies at home.
