Join Family Matters Parent Training & Information Center for “Communication Devices Part 3: Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Implementation and Carryover” on April 20 from 12 – 1:30 p.m.
Using your child’s augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) system at home can be the key to helping them communicate successfully in and outside of the home.
This family-centered workshop will identify evidence-based strategies to encourage the use of AAC systems in the home environment. Presenter Heather Miller Schwarz, M.S., CCC-SLP, will guide participants in how to:
- Build on your child’s current communication strengths
- Use AAC tools and strategies during existing activities and routines throughout the day to consistently strengthen skills
Schwarz is a speech-language pathologist with over 20 years of experience working with individuals with complex communication needs. She has worked in public school, private practice and non-profit settings and has participated as a member of IEP and assistive technology teams. Her areas of interest continue to include pediatric speech-language disorders and assistive technology for individuals of all ages and abilities.
