Webinar – “Responding to the Behavioral Signs of Trauma”
A free webinar for families and professionals on recognizing behavioral signs of trauma in people with intellectual disabilities and the importance of trauma-informed care
Join The Autism Program of Illinois (TAP), the Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD) and the Illinois LEND Program (IL LEND) for “Responding to the Behavioral Signs of Trauma” on May 17 from 12 to 1 p.m.
Challenging behavior that appears to “come out of nowhere” may be an indicator of trauma history. Before implementing behavioral interventions, understanding a person’s trauma history is essential.
Illinois Crisis Prevention Network (ICPN) Director Kim Shontz will help participants explore:
- Understanding sources of trauma and how they may differ for people with intellectual disabilities
- Identifying behavioral signs or triggers that may indicate trauma history
- Assessing and identifying environments that cause a person distress
- Recognizing the importance of trauma-informed care when responding to a person engaging in challenging behavior
ICPN provides support service teams for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities experiencing significant behavioral and/or medical challenges.
