A free webinar for professionals and individuals about the problem, ongoing projects and ways to prevent violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)

The 2022 Healthy Brain Webinar Series for People with IDD features The Arc’s National Center on Criminal Justice and Disability (NCCJD) “Preventing Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities” on Jan. 18 from 1 – 2 p.m.

This webinar will include current data and information about ongoing projects related to violence prevention.

Presenters Leigh Ann Davis, James Meadours, Mark Starford and Kecia Weller will cover:

  • National data on victimization
  • Hearing from survivors with IDD about the urgency of addressing this topic at the national, state and local levels
  • The range of abuse and neglect people with IDD experience and the aging population.
  • The impact of trauma and the need for accessible, effective healing services

The presentation will also discuss “Talk About Sexual Violence”, a three-year project seeking to educate health care professionals about how to talk to patients with IDD about sexual violence using brief videos and supporting materials
