Learn about research on pediatric-to-adult health transition for adolescent and young adults with serious illnesses and the potential impacts of social determinants of health

The Pediatric Palliative Care Coalition’s (PPCC) webinar series continues with “Pediatric-to-Adult Health Transition for Adolescents with Medical Complexity: The Role of Family and Social Determinants of Health” on June 20 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Youth with serious illness are increasingly moving into adolescence and young adulthood. Professionals continue to explore the process of pediatric-to-adult transition and the experiences of youth and their families during this transition.

Presenters will share their research on the pediatric-to-adult health transition for adolescent and young adults with serious illnesses, including:

  • Potential impacts of social determinants of health on pediatric-to-adult health transition
  • How families are both a determinant of health and affected by social determinants of health during this transition
  • The importance of social determinants of comfort to the care of youth and their families

Learn more about the presenters:

  • Kim Mooney-Doyle, PhD, RN, CPNP-AC, is an assistant professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing in Baltimore, MD. Her research focuses on enhancing family health in the context of serious pediatric illness and medical complexity. She is particularly interested in promoting health equity for families.
  • Lisa C. Lindley, PhD, RN, FPCN, FAAN, is a child health services and policy researcher whose work focuses on health care systems and policy interventions.
  • Erika Ventura Castellon, BSN, RN, is a pediatric nurse. She explores the experiences of Latino/a/x caregivers of children who receive solid organ transplants and the predictors of their quality of life.
