A free virtual training series to help parents, guardians and interested community members understand and navigate the special education process in Illinois

The Family Resource Center on Disabilities is hosting their “Parent Advocacy Leadership (PAL) Training Program” beginning Sept. 30 and running through Nov. 18. The eight sessions will take place on Zoom. Each session will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The training will provide:

  • A strong understanding of state and federal laws
  • An update on current topics
  • Skills for navigating the special education process in Illinois.

Parents, caregivers and interested community members must be willing to attend all eight sessions, complete homework prior to each session and complete a pre- and post-training survey.

Training will cover:

  • The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  • State law (Part 226)
  • The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Section 504
  • Advocacy

Participants completing all eight sessions will receive a Parent Advocacy Leadership Certificate of Completion.
