Learn from experts about how to help individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities cope with loss.

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD) is hosting a free webinar on “Coping With Loss During COVID-19 and 2020 Societal Conflicts.”

It is scheduled for 12 p.m. Oct. 21.

Researcher and autistic self-advocate T.J. Gordon will use personal experience and research to talk about how people with autism are dealing with sadness, anxiety and loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, deaths in 2020 and societal conflicts.

You will also learn about ways you can help people with autism cope with the pain due to 2020 events.

The webinar is free. Continuing education units are also available.

The learning objectives for the presentation are:

  • Identifying various means people with autism could deal with loss and sadness during COVID-19 pandemic and other social issues in 2020
  • Learning to understand and address an autistic person’s loss
  • Learning ways to help people with autism cope with loss and sadness (including #StayAndPlay initiative by The Alliance)
