Virtual Conference – Speak Up and Speak Out Summit (SUSO)
A virtual three-day conference featuring speakers and self-advocates showing that people with disabilities have a voice and choices in what they do with their life
Join The Arc of Illinois in partnership with the Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities for ”SUSO 2021: Building a New World that includes Independence, Belonging, Inclusiveness and Respect” on Nov. 16 – 18 from 9:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.
This virtual conference highlights a wide variety of speakers and topics focusing on empowering persons with disabilities to reach their highest potential in education, employment and community living.
Keynote Speaker Noor Pervez’s presentation, “How do you build a new world,” kicks off the conference. Noor will talk about how people made the world we currently live in and share ways that he thinks that people with disabilities and our allies can build one that works better for all of us.
Sessions will also cover:
- “Take This Job and LOVE It!” – three self-advocates will describe their journeys to successful community employment
- “It Starts by Saying Hi!” – activities and personal stories to help attendees learn the importance of respecting all people, even those who are different from them
- “Supportive Housing” – the experience of individuals who have chosen supportive housing and why
- “I Got This! Living My Best Life with Epilepsy (a disability)” – explores epilepsy, how to support our friends who have epilepsy and how to take good care of ourselves
