STEMfest at Northern Illinois University
Free low-sensory hour during festival celebrating science, technology, engineering and math.
Northern Illinois University’s STEMfest will hold a free event with a low-sensory hour to help families with sensory issues, including those on the autism spectrum, feel more comfortable.
During the low-sensory hour from 4 to 5 p.m., the lights will be dimmed, the stage speakers turned off and exhibitors will replace loud or flashy activities with something quieter.
The STEMfest team plans a low-sensory science demo show at the start of the hour. STEMfest is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
