Special Education Trainings for Parents
Learn how to navigate the special education system through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Family Resource Center on Disabilities (FRCD) is holding six sessions, all free and on Saturdays between January 30 and February 27. As a parent, you are your child’s best advocate and an equal member of his or her Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. The more you know about IDEA, the better equipped you are to advocate for your child’s right to a free appropriate public education.
The topics to be covered in the training sessions include:
- Skills for Effective Parent Advocacy (Jan. 30)
- Six Principles of IDEA (Feb. 6)
- Navigating the IEP Process (Feb. 13)
- Skills for Effective Parent Advocacy (Feb. 20)
- Transition to Post Secondary Education (Preparing for your child for life after high school – Feb. 27)
