Saturday Clubs Program for Teens and Young Adults in Springfield

A series of free classes for freshman through college-age students who want to learn new skills, such as cooking, music and creating art

Session two of the Third Presbyterian Church’s Saturday Clubs Program will begin on April 9.

Classes will meet for two hours each week on April 9, 16, 23 and 30 at Third Presbyterian Church, 1030 North Seventh St., in Springfield.

Participants must register for either morning (10 a.m. – 12 p.m.) or afternoon (1-3 p.m.) classes.

The Saturday Clubs Program is a great place to make friends, learn new skills and explore your interests in cooking, art and music. Classes are being offered in:

• Cooking – prepare several tasty dishes while learning about the names and uses of kitchen pots, pans, utensils and appliances. Kitchen safety and proper sanitary handling of food will also be covered.
• Music – learn basic music terms and how to read music. Explore music over the ages and look at the varieties of music genres. Learn how to direct a choral or an instrumental group. The class will also create a piece of music.
• Art from Upcycling – this class is a partnership with the Springfield Art Association and Creative Reuse Marketplace. Participants will use recycled materials to plan a variety of arts and crafts projects while learning about area recycling programs.

Youth must be at least a freshman in high school to participate.
