Their work is creating a passionate and informed community of advocates. Also, Katie works as the Director of Community Education in the Institute on Disability and Human Development at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her work is anchored to her experience growing up with her sister with intellectual disabilities.
  • Shirley Valladares, Supporting Illinois Brothers & Sisters – Shirley is a special education teacher for students with low-incidence disabilities in Chicago Public Schools. She is part of the Supporting Illinois Brothers & Sisters (S.I.B.S) leadership team, an Illinois chapter of the Sibling Leadership Network (SLN). She is the oldest of three siblings.
