Free online training to help transition-age individuals with disabilities learn new ways to build their skills in self-advocacy and money management.

CTF Illinois as part of the Southern Illinois Transition Project is providing online training on “Financial Wellness for People with Disabilities.”

The training aims to promote financial wellness and foster greater economic self-sufficiency for persons with disabilities.

The ten information/training sessions are targeted for transition-age self-advocates (14 to 30 years of age) and their parents.

Each topic and 1.5-hour training has a Monday evening (6:30 p.m.) session followed by a Friday morning (11:30 a.m.) session.

Participants are welcome to join one or both if they would like a refresher. The sessions may vary slightly based on the attendees but will both include the essential elements for good financial wellness.

Participants are encouraged to attend all ten sessions, but it’s not necessary. Participants are free to join any session.

Module 1 focuses on “Financial Wellness: Money.” Click on the Aug. 28 session registration page to sign up for the Friday morning session.

The first module will introduce participants to the basic principles of money. Why do we need money? How do we get money? How do we create good money habits? How can money management skills help us to achieve our goals?

Who should attend this module:

  • Students – middle school, transition-age and older
  • Parents and family members
  • Teachers, case managers, administrators, educators
  • Vocational coordinators
  • Non-profit organizations and those working/volunteering in disability advocacy

Objectives for this module:

  • Explain what money is and what we use it for.
  • Explain how money is earned.
  • Define assets.
  • Discuss why money is needed.
  • Learn what it means to budget money.

The presentation is online and interactive, so participants are encouraged to engage.

After registering, participants will receive a confirmation email with login information and handouts to review before the online event, including a pre-survey so trainers can better understand what you understand about financial wellness.
