A free webinar series for parents and high school students with IEPs on overcoming hardship, strengthening relationships and self-advocacy

Family Matters Parent Training & Information Center‘s  Differently-Abled Student Empowerment Series kicks off with “Vision For Your Future” on March 9 from 7 – 8 p.m. This is the first webinar of this three-part series.

Self-advocacy skills are critical for success in the adult world. The prime time to work on those skills is while students are still in school.  However, students who have Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) may not know how to talk about their own learning needs or explain them to others.

In Vision for Your Future, presenter Dr. Keyon L. Anderson will inspire and motivate parents and youth to work together to develop a positive vision.

Anderson has encountered and overcome many hardships while seeking a better future. One of his biggest challenges was learning how to live and succeed with dyslexia, an information processing disorder.

Anderson is an author and completed his Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at the University of Southern California (USC). He is living his “dream come true” and continues to serve as a role model in helping students with disabilities fight stigma, strengthen relationships and be involved in their individualized education program (IEP).
