A weekend featuring accessible performances for children with disabilities and their families
The Chicago Children’s Theatre‘s next access weekend features “Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster”.
Saturday and Sunday performances supporting a variety of needs will be on:
- Oct. 8
- 9:30 a.m. – American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted and Open Captions
- 11:30 a.m. – Sensory-Friendly

- 9:30 a.m. – Open Captions
- 11:30 a.m. – Sensory-Friendly
The show brings the popular children’s books by Mo Willems to life in a new Manual Cinema show the whole family will enjoy. Leonardo is a terrible monster. He tries so hard to be scary, but he just…isn’t. Then Leonardo finds Sam, the most scaredy-cat kid in the world.
This Chicago premiere features hundreds of illustrated puppets, fuzzy Muppet-style puppets, hilarious actors on live cameras and a live music soundtrack.
Access weekends provide opportunities for everyone to experience the show in their own unique way and include:
- Sensory-friendly performances for guests on the autism spectrum or with other sensory sensitivities where the lighting, sound and volume are modified
- ASL interpretation
- Open captions displayed on a large screen for audience members who prefer to read along with the action
- Audio description services that provide guests with in-depth descriptions of performer characterizations, costumes and staging
- Pre-show Touch Tours for guests who are blind or have low vision to touch the scenery, props and costumes and meet the performers and hear them describe their characters and appearance
Some services must be requested two weeks before the performance you are planning to attend. Please contact Ben Kaye with Guest Services at ben@chicagochildrenstheatre.org.
