L.E.A.P. stands for Leisure Education and Adaptive Programming. Camp L.E.A.P. is a Special Needs Summer Day Camp and is a program of adaptive recreation for individuals with disabilities offered through the Springfield Park District.

L.E.A.P. programs are for individuals from preschool through adulthood with special needs, including learning disabilities, physical impairments, behavior issues, visual impairments, multiple disabilities or those with any other special needs. All attempts are made to place participants in programs according to their disability, age and peer group.

The Nelson Center’s Camp L.E.A.P for Kids is for campers age 5-12 with and without a disability/special needs. The camp is held weekly, Monday through Friday, from June 7 to Aug. 13. The camp day is 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Activities include:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Daily walks in Lincoln Park
  • Swimming
  • Guest speakers
  • Field trips
  • Games
  • Daily playground activities and more

Camp L.E.A.P. for Kids is a weekly program. Registration deadlines are set as the Friday prior to the week the participant is attending.
