Free virtual program for brothers and sisters of children with special needs

Advocate Children’s Hospital’s Sibsensations offers support for typically developing siblings of children with developmental disabilities, physical disabilities and selected chronic illnesses. Participants are ages 8 to 13.

Children meet peers with similar experiences in a fun and friendly atmosphere, where they can discuss their common joys and concerns. The siblings learn how to handle situations they all face regularly and talk about what it’s like to have a brother or sister with special needs. The program includes games, activities, crafts and age-appropriate discussions.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Sibsensations meetings for fall 2020 will take place on Zoom until further notice.

The September session is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 14.

Siblings will need a device with an internet connection and a private space to participate as the meetings are confidential.

Zoom sessions are free of charge.

Registration and consent are required. Please contact Kathryn Smart, MS, RN, CRRN, at (847) 723-2472 or Kathryn.Smart@advocatehealth.com.

The next Sibsensation session is scheduled for Dec. 12.
