Join the University of Illinois Chicago’s Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD), the Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (IL LEND) and The Autism Program of Illinois (TAP) on Zoom for “School Readiness Gaps Matter! Bridging Gaps Through Physical Activity” on May 21 from 12 to 1 p.m.
Children with autism often experience delays in motor and social communicative skills.
Speaker Catherine Cheung, PT, PhD, will discuss the relationship between motor and communication skills and guide participants through:
- Identifying the characteristics and the correlation of motor and communications skills
- Creating an engaging environment and implementing physical activities in inclusive classes
- Adapting activities for children with autism to maximize their participation
Catherine is an assistant professor in the physical therapy program at Northern Illinois University and a researcher focusing on structured motor programs to facilitate motor, social, communication and adaptive behavior skills for children with disabilities (including autism).
