Therapeutic Horseback Riding in Champaign-Urbana
Opportunity for youth with disabilities ages 5 and up to learn about riding and caring for horses
Dreaming of riding horses and learning how to care for them?
Join Champaign-Urbana Special Recreation (CUSR) at Healing Horse Stables from March 23 to April 27. Participants will meet at the stables each Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.
Experience riding and taking care of horses. Sessions will include:
- An hour-long riding lesson with a P.A.T.H. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship)-certified instructor
- Learning how to groom and saddle a horse
In addition to being fun, the therapeutic horseback riding program can help individuals with:
- Increasing concentration and balance
- Improving coordination, muscle tone and body awareness
- Forming connections in a non-judgmental environment
Participants must wear closed-toed gym shoes or cowboy boots. Participants should also wear long pants to protect their legs.

Register for the therapeutic horseback riding class on CUSR’s website. Sign-up ends on March 15 or when the class is filled.
