Event Type

A free, virtual support group for siblings and caregivers/parents of youth with autism, developmental disabilities and/or mental health challenges

Autism Speaks is hosting its next “Supporting Siblings” chat via Zoom on Sept. 7 at 5:30 p.m. Groups meet on the first Thursday of each month.

Supporting Siblings provides three different sessions to meet the needs of each group.

Siblings will meet other children and teens who know what it’s like to have a brother or sister with behavioral challenges. Siblings ages 6 to 18 are welcome to join this virtual safe space led by psychiatrists and trainees at UMass Chan Medical School to:

  • Talk together
  • Learn coping skills
  • Feel better

Parents/caregivers joining for the first time will meet with a trained parent mentor for an overview of the importance of and strategies for supporting siblings.

Returning parents/caregivers will join a session led by a social worker that will include:

  • Time for sharing
  • Addressing ongoing family challenges that impact siblings

Parents/caregivers can attend even if siblings do not and vice versa.

The Supporting Siblings 2023 program is free. All participants must register and sign an online consent form.

Contact Emily Rubin at emily.rubin@umassmed.edu or (857) 523-1145 to reserve your spot.

After signing an online consent form, participants will receive an email with instructions to log into Zoom.
