Autism: Addressing Hygiene, Puberty, Personal Safety, and Sexuality Issues
A day-long, in-person workshop for parents, teachers and other professionals addressing strategies for teaching self-care, independence and sexuality to children and adults with autism and related disabilities
Join Florissa Center for “Autism: Addressing Hygiene, Puberty, Personal Safety and Sexuality Issues” on April 8 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Dixon Elks Lodge, 1279 Franklin Grove Road, in Dixon.
Mary Wrobel, is an award-winning author, teacher and speech-language pathologist who has taught and worked with students with autism and other disabilities for more than 25 years.
Wrobel will provide attendees with strategies for teaching and promoting self-care, safety and sexuality for children and adults with autism and related disabilities.
The workshop will cover the needs of children starting at age 3, elementary students, teenagers and young adults.
Participants will learn:
- Specific skills to teach students with autism regarding hygiene, modesty, puberty, personal safety and sexuality
- Strategies and techniques for effectively teaching workshop topics to individual students
- How to use visual supports and step-by-step instructions to teach skills to students
The cost of the workshop is $50 for teachers and professionals and $25 for consumers and family members.
