Webinar – “Recognizing the Signs of Exploitation Among Individuals With Disabilities”

Learn from experts and advocates in the autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities field about recognizing the signs of exploitation among individuals with disabilities

The University of Illinois Chicago’s Institute on Disability and Human Development (IDHD), Illinois LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) and The Autism Program of Illinois (TAP) invite caregivers and professionals to join the “Recognizing the Signs of Exploitation Among Individuals With Disabilities” webinar on Nov. 3 from 12 – 1 p.m.

When working with individuals with disabilities, it can be difficult to recognize the signs of exploitation or even determine if the individual is being exploited.

Exploitation can come from caregivers, friends, staff or others. It also takes many forms, including sex and labor trafficking as well as financial or economic exploitation.

In this first session of the “Human Trafficking and Disability Series,” speakers  Jody Haskin, Susan Kahan and  Jessica Hinman will discuss:

• Different forms of exploitation
• What exploitation may look like in disability populations and in various contexts
• Steps providers can take if they feel that they have identified that an individual with a disability is being exploited
