Turning Pointe Autism Foundation’s Career Development Camp
Virtual programming in independent living, social communication and employability skills for youth ages 16 and older with autism spectrum disorder
Turning Pointe Autism Foundation has created a hybrid learning experience that combines virtual lessons and mock interviews with hands-on employability training from home.
The Career Development Camp will take place June 19 to July 31 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The camp is broken down into three sessions: independent living, social communication and employability:
- Session 1 – Independent Living – June 19 to July 2
- Session 2 – Social Communication – July 6-17
- Session 3 – Employability – July 20-31
It is for individuals affected by autism spectrum disorders who are 16 and older.
During the independent living session, students learn pre-employment hygiene, housekeeping, food preparation, time management, and money management.
Students in the social communication session focus on asking and answering questions, socializing on a team, understanding emotions, social etiquette, and teamwork.
In the employability session, students learn about skills and expectations working in the community, identifying job skills and interests, job interview preparedness, positive attitudes in the workplace, completing a job application and more.
To accommodate the Governor’s social distancing orders, the 2020 summer camp will be offered through virtual instruction at a discounted rate.
More information, including fees and the application process, is available on the Career Development Camp web page.
