 s explore options and plan for the future of children with disabilities tr
 ansitioning to adulthood\n\nThe Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH
 )\, the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission (IGAC) and the Illin
 ois Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program will host “Understanding Advanced D
 irectives” on June 10 from 3 to 4 p.m.\n\nThis session will feature Laur
 el Spahn\, an attorney with the Legal Advocacy Service\, a division of the
  IGAC. Dedicated to providing trial and appellate representation to person
 s with mental illnesses\, Laurel brings experiences including arguing ment
 al health cases in all five Illinois Appellate Court districts and the Sta
 te Supreme Court\, speaking at national and state mental health conference
 s and co-authoring a chapter on Mental Health Law in an Illinois guide for
  lawyers.\n\nLaurel will help participants understand the power of advance
  directives\, the legal documents that a person age 18 or older makes to e
 nsure someone else can make important healthcare decisions for them if the
 y're ever unconscious or unable to make their own decisions. She will exp
 lain:\n\n 	Why it’s a good idea for adults to have one\, even if they ar
 e in perfect health right now.\n 	The types of healthcare advance directiv
 es available in Illinois and their legal implications.\n 	How the document
 s can help prevent delays in treatment.\n 	How the documents can help prev
 ent someone else from making a decision that the person might not want.\n\
 nThis free webinar series is open to Illinois residents\, families\, guard
 ians and the general public.\n\nSee the "Understanding Guardianship\, Adva
