SAM’s Safety Fair in Rockford

Free family-friendly event focused on safety and healthy habits.

Parents and children will have the opportunity to visit 40 organization’s booths during the event, including UIC’s Division of Specialized Care for Children, on the grounds of SwedishAmerican Hospital. The event is held in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services Week and is named after the hospital’s mascot, SAM  (SwedishAmerican Mascot).

Kids will be able to meet local firefighters and police officers; explore the inside of an ambulance and fire truck; learn about boat safety; bicycle safety; burn prevention; pet safety; poison prevention; water and sun safety; injury prevention and more. They also can participate in the bicycle safety rodeo and receive a free helmet (while supplies last).

The event also will feature the SwedishAmerican Caring Canines and animals from the Winnebago County Animal Shelter. In addition, there will be a rock climbing wall, Velcro sticky wall and a bungee run.

Kids can meet SAM, Hammy from the Rockford IceHogs, mascots from Magic Waters and the YMCA and the interactive Sparky the fire truck and Andy the ambulance.
