Free, adapted electric cars for children ages 2-5 with spina bifida.

The Illinois Spina Bifida Association is holding a GoBabyGo workshop on June 10 at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Chicago.

Illinois families with children with spina bifida age 2-5 are eligible to receive a free, customized electric car for their child. Click here for a video from last year to see the cars.

A $40 deposit is required to register and receive a car. The $40 will be refunded only if you attend the June 10 workshop to pick up the electric car. Tentative car pick-up time is between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you cancel after registering, your deposit will not be refunded as custom equipment will have already been purchased for your child.  Gas cards will be available for Illinois families outside of Chicagoland.

Space is limited and registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

In order to receive a car, the child must have:

  • Cognitive age of 12 months or greater
  • No severe visual disorder
  • Enthusiastic parent(s) with ability to supervise a child in a car
  • Parents must also indicate what major mobility deficits the child may have in their upper and lower limbs
  • Priority will be given to children who have limited mobility

Volunteer teams of engineers and physical therapists will use this information to purchase and install custom equipment for your child.
